Painting in Haw Creek.
Haw Creek runs east of downtown along the Blue Ridge Parkway corridor. The Haw Creek Valley Overlook on the Parkway is at milepost 380, and the Folk Art Center is just up the road. Housing is layered: 1960s and 1970s ranches, contemporary mountain customs, 1990s and 2000s suburban infill, and the occasional cabin tucked back off the main road.
Helene hit Haw Creek hard in September 2024. The flooding pulled silt through ground-floor rooms, and a multi-year recovery is still in progress on many blocks. The valley itself is heavily shaded, slow to dry, and runs high mildew pressure year-round. We bring moisture meters on every prep day and coordinate with framing and remediation crews on the rebuilds that are still cycling through.
What we see on Haw Creek homes.
Common home styles
1960s–1970s ranches, contemporary mountain customs, 1990s–2000s suburban homes, and post-Helene rebuilds with new siding waiting for primer.
Popular projects
Deck staining and re-sealing on the deck every house has, exterior repaint with mildew-resistant systems, post-Helene siding replacement with color-match repaints, and interior whole-house refresh after moisture remediation.
Climate & prep considerations
Heavy valley shade means slow drying and constant mildew pressure. Helene moisture intrusion is still showing up on homes that look fine externally, so moisture testing is part of every prep. Decks here get hit by leaf litter and need re-sealing more often than the rest of the city.
